Juz 04

(3:93 – 4:23)

3:93

All food was lawful for the Children of Israel except what Israel ˹Jacob˺ forbade himself before the Torah was revealed. Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Bring the Torah and recite it, if you are truthful.”

3:94

Whoever fabricates lies against Allāh after this—it is they who are the wrongdoers.

3:95

Say, “Allāh speaks the truth. So follow the religion of Abraham, the upright, who was not one of the polytheists.”

3:96

Indeed, the first House ˹of worship˺ established for humanity is the one at Mecca, a blessed place and a source of guidance for all peoples.

3:97

In it are clear signs: the Standing-Place of Abraham. Whoever enters it is secure. Pilgrimage to the House is an obligation for people due to Allāh—for whoever can afford the journey. But whoever disbelieves, then Allāh is certainly not in need of ˹anyone in˺ the universe.

3:98

Say, “O People of the Scripture! Why do you reject the revelations of Allāh, while Allāh is a witness over everything you do?”

3:99

Say, “O People of the Scripture! Why do you turn the believers away from the Path of Allāh, seeking to make it appear crooked, while you yourselves witness ˹its truth˺? And Allāh is not unaware of what you do.”

3:100

O believers! If you obey a faction of those who were given the Scripture, they will turn you back into disbelievers after your faith.

3:101

But how can you disbelieve when the revelations of Allāh are recited to you, and His Messenger is among you? And whoever holds firmly to Allāh is certainly guided to the Straight Path.

3:102

O believers! Be mindful of Allāh, as is His due, and do not die except in a state of submission ˹to Him˺.

3:103

And hold firmly to the rope of Allāh, all together, and do not be divided. Remember Allāh’s favour upon you when you were enemies, then He united your hearts, so you became brothers by His grace. You were at the brink of a fiery pit and He saved you from it. This is how Allāh makes His revelations clear to you, so that you may be guided.

3:104

And let there be a group among you who call ˹others˺ to goodness, encourage what is good, and forbid what is evil—it is these who will be successful.

3:105

And do not be like those who became divided and differed after the clear proofs had come to them. It is they who will suffer a tremendous punishment.

3:106

˹That will be˺ the Day when some faces will be bright and some faces will be black. To those whose faces are black ˹it will be said˺, “Did you disbelieve after your belief? Then taste the torment for what you used to reject.”

3:107

And as for those whose faces are bright, they will be in the mercy of Allāh, where they will reside forever.

3:108

These are the revelations of Allāh that We recite to you ˹O Prophet˺ in truth. And Allāh does not intend injustice to ˹anyone in˺ the universe.

3:109

To Allāh belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And all matters are destined to return to Allāh.

3:110

You are the best community ever raised for humanity—you encourage what is good, forbid what is evil, and believe in Allāh. Had the People of the Scripture believed, it would have been better for them. Some of them are believers, but most are rebellious.

Certainly. Here is Part 2: Verses 3:111 through 3:200 to complete Sūrat Āl ʿImrān, using your specified formatting.

3:111

They can do you no harm beyond annoyance. If they fight you, they will turn their backs and flee, and they will not be helped.

3:112

Humiliation has been imposed upon them wherever they are found, except when under a covenant with Allāh or a covenant with people. They have incurred Allāh’s wrath, and misery has been imposed upon them. This is because they rejected Allāh’s revelations and unjustly killed the prophets. This is because they disobeyed and transgressed.

3:113

They are not all alike. Among the People of the Scripture is an upright community who recite the revelations of Allāh throughout the night, bowing down ˹in prayer˺.

3:114

They believe in Allāh and the Last Day, encourage what is good and forbid what is evil, and hasten to do good deeds. They are among the righteous.

3:115

And whatever good they do, they will never be denied its reward. And Allāh is All-Knowing of those who are mindful ˹of Him˺.

3:116

Indeed, the wealth and children of those who disbelieve will be of no benefit to them against ˹the punishment of˺ Allāh. And it is they who will be the residents of the Fire, where they will abide forever.

3:117

The example of what they spend in this worldly life is like a wind containing intense frost, striking the crops of people who wronged themselves and destroying them. Allāh did not wrong them, but they wronged themselves.

3:118

O believers! Do not take as confidantes those outside your circle who spare no effort to corrupt you. They wish to see you suffer. Hatred has already appeared from their mouths, and what their hearts conceal is far worse. We have certainly made the signs clear for you, if only you understand.

3:119

There you are, loving them, yet they do not love you, although you believe in the whole of the Scripture. When they meet you, they say, “We believe,” but when they are alone, they bite their fingertips at you out of rage. Say, “Die in your rage!” Surely Allāh knows best what is hidden in the chest.

3:120

If anything good happens to you, it distresses them; and if any misfortune befalls you, they rejoice at it. But if you are patient and mindful ˹of Allāh˺, their schemes will not harm you at all. Indeed, Allāh encompasses whatever they do.

3:121

˹Remember, O Prophet,˺ when you left your family in the early morning to position the believers for battle ˹at Uḥud˺. And Allāh is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

3:122

˹Remember˺ when two groups among you were about to lose courage, yet Allāh was their Guardian. And in Allāh let the believers put their trust.

3:123

Allāh had certainly granted you victory at Badr when you were few and weak. So be mindful of Allāh, so that you may be grateful.

3:124

˹Remember˺ when you said to the believers, “Is it not enough for you that your Lord will reinforce you with three thousand angels sent down ˹from above˺?

3:125

Yes! If you are patient and mindful ˹of Allāh˺, and the enemy attacks you suddenly, your Lord will reinforce you with five thousand angels, distinguished ˹by their marks˺.”

3:126

Allāh made it only as good news for you, and so that your hearts would be reassured by it. Victory comes only from Allāh, the Almighty, All-Wise.

3:127

˹This was˺ so He might cut off a group of the disbelievers or utterly disgrace them, causing them to retreat in failure.

3:128

You ˹O Prophet˺ have no say in the matter—whether Allāh forgives them or punishes them—for they are wrongdoers.

3:129

To Allāh belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. And Allāh is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

3:130

O believers! Do not consume interest, compounded over and over. Be mindful of Allāh, so that you may prosper.

3:131

And guard against the Fire, which has been prepared for the disbelievers.

3:132

And obey Allāh and the Messenger, so that you may be granted mercy.

3:133

And race towards your Lord’s forgiveness and a Paradise as vast as the heavens and the earth, prepared for the mindful ˹of Allāh˺.

3:134

˹They are˺ those who donate in prosperity and adversity, control their anger, and pardon others. And Allāh loves the good-doers.

3:135

And those who, when they commit a shameful deed or wrong themselves, remember Allāh and pray for the forgiveness of their sins—and who can forgive sins except Allāh? And they do not knowingly persist in their wrongdoing.

3:136

Their reward is forgiveness from their Lord and Gardens under which rivers flow, where they will abide forever. How excellent is the reward for the workers!

3:137

There have been many ˹similar˺ events before you ˹O believers˺. So travel throughout the land and see what was the end of the deniers.

3:138

This ˹Quran˺ is a clear statement for humanity, a guidance, and an admonition for the mindful ˹of Allāh˺.

3:139

Do not falter or grieve, for you will have the upper hand, if you are truly believers.

3:140

If you have suffered a setback, the others have suffered a similar setback. We alternate these days ˹of varying fortunes˺ among people so that Allāh may reveal the ˹true˺ believers and choose martyrs from among you. And Allāh does not like the wrongdoers.

3:141

And so that Allāh may purify the believers and destroy the disbelievers.

3:142

Do you think you will enter Paradise without Allāh knowing those among you who ˹truly˺ strive and knowing those who are steadfast?

3:143

You certainly wished for death before you encountered it, but now you have seen it with your own eyes.

3:144

Muḥammad is no more than a Messenger, and certainly ˹many˺ Messengers came and passed away before him. If he dies or is killed, will you turn back on your heels? Whoever turns back on his heels will not harm Allāh whatsoever. And Allāh will reward the grateful.

3:145

No soul can ever die except by Allāh’s permission, at a term appointed. Whoever desires the reward of this world, We will grant it to him; and whoever desires the reward of the Hereafter, We will grant it to him. And We will reward the grateful.

3:146

How many prophets fought, and along with them great numbers of godly people! They did not lose courage on account of what afflicted them in the cause of Allāh, nor did they weaken, nor did they surrender. And Allāh loves the steadfast.

3:147

Their only words were, “Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and our excesses in our affairs, make our steps firm, and give us victory over the disbelieving people.”

3:148

So Allāh gave them the reward of this world and the excellent reward of the Hereafter. And Allāh loves the good-doers.

3:149

O believers! If you obey those who disbelieve, they will turn you back on your heels, and you will return as losers.

3:150

No! Allāh is your Protector, and He is the best of helpers.

3:151

We will cast horror into the hearts of those who disbelieve because they associate others with Allāh—a practice for which He has sent down no authority. Their destination is the Fire, and miserable is the abode of the wrongdoers.

3:152

Allāh certainly fulfilled His promise to you when you were eliminating them by His leave, until you lost courage, disputed over the command, and disobeyed after He had showed you what you desired ˹the spoils of war˺. Among you were those who desired this world, and among you were those who desired the Hereafter. Then He turned you away from them to test you. Yet He has pardoned you. And Allāh is gracious to the believers.

3:153

˹Remember˺ when you were fleeing, paying no heed to anyone, and the Messenger was calling you from behind. So Allāh repaid you with distress upon distress, so that you would not grieve over what you missed or what afflicted you. And Allāh is All-Aware of what you do.

3:154

Then after the distress, He sent down security upon you in the form of slumber overcoming a group of you, while another group was troubled by their own thoughts, entertaining false suspicions about Allāh—suspicions typical of the days of ignorance. They asked ˹one another˺, “Do we have any say in the matter?” Say, “The whole matter belongs to Allāh.” They conceal within themselves what they do not reveal to you, saying, “If we had any say in the matter, none of us would have been killed here.” Say, “Even if you had remained in your homes, those destined to be killed would have come forth to the places where they were to die.” This was so Allāh may test what is in your chests and purify what is in your hearts. And Allāh is All-Knowing of what is hidden in the chest.

3:155

Indeed, those of you who turned away on the day the two armies met, Satan only caused them to slip up because of some ˹sins˺ they had committed. But Allāh has certainly pardoned them. Surely Allāh is All-Forgiving, Most Forbearing.

3:156

O believers! Do not be like the disbelievers who say about their brethren who died while travelling or fighting, “If only they had stayed with us, they would not have died or been killed.” Allāh makes that a source of regret in their hearts. Allāh gives life and causes death. And Allāh is All-Seeing of what you do.

3:157

And if you are killed in the cause of Allāh or die, forgiveness from Allāh and mercy are far better than whatever they accumulate.

3:158

And whether you die or are killed, you will certainly be gathered to Allāh.

3:159

It is only by a mercy from Allāh that you ˹O Prophet˺ were lenient with them. Had you been harsh and hard-hearted, they would have certainly disbanded from around you. So pardon them and ask for ˹Allāh’s˺ forgiveness for them, and consult with them in ˹conducting˺ matters. Once you make a decision, put your trust in Allāh. Surely Allāh loves those who trust ˹in Him˺.

3:160

If Allāh helps you, none can overcome you. But if He abandons you, who then can help you after Him? So in Allāh let the believers put their trust.

3:161

It is not conceivable for a prophet to defraud ˹the people˺. And whoever defrauds, will bring the object of his fraud on the Day of Judgment. Then every soul will be paid back fully for what it has earned, and none will be wronged.

3:162

Can a person who seeks the pleasure of Allāh be compared to one who incurs the displeasure of Allāh, and whose abode is Hell? What a terrible destination!

3:163

They are in varying ranks in the sight of Allāh. And Allāh is All-Seeing of what they do.

3:164

Allāh has certainly blessed the believers when He sent to them a Messenger from among themselves, reciting to them His revelations, purifying them, and teaching them the Scripture and wisdom, even though they were clearly astray before that.

3:165

How is it that when a setback afflicted you—though you had inflicted twice as much ˹on the enemy at Badr˺—you cried, “How did this happen?” Say, “It is from your own selves ˹due to your disobedience˺.” Surely Allāh has power over everything.

3:166

And what afflicted you on the day the two armies met was by Allāh’s leave, so that He might reveal the true believers,

3:167

and reveal the hypocrites. When they were told, “Come, fight in the cause of Allāh or defend yourselves,” they replied, “If we knew there would be fighting, we would certainly follow you.” They were closer to disbelief on that day than to belief. They say with their mouths what is not in their hearts. And Allāh knows best what they conceal.

3:168

They are the ones who stayed behind and said about their ˹killed˺ brethren, “If they had only obeyed us, they would not have been killed.” Say, “Then repel death from yourselves, if you are truthful!”

3:169

Never think of those killed in the cause of Allāh as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, well provided for—

3:170

joyful in what Allāh has granted them of His grace, and delighting for those ˹believers˺ yet to join them, that they have no fear, nor will they grieve.

3:171

They rejoice at the favour and grace from Allāh, and that Allāh will not allow the reward of the believers to be lost.

3:172

Those who responded to the call of Allāh and the Messenger after suffering a setback—for those among them who did good and were mindful ˹of Allāh˺, there will be a great reward.

3:173

Those who were warned, “The people have gathered against you, so fear them,”—but this only increased their faith, and they replied, “Allāh is sufficient for us, and ˹He is˺ the best Disposer of affairs.”

3:174

So they returned with favour and grace from Allāh, having suffered no harm, and followed the pleasure of Allāh. And Allāh is the possessor of infinite bounty.

3:175

It is only Satan who frightens ˹you with˺ his allies. So do not fear them, but fear Me, if you are ˹true˺ believers.

3:176

Do not be grieved by those who rush into disbelief. They will never harm Allāh in the least. Allāh intends not to give them any share in the Hereafter, and they will suffer a tremendous punishment.

3:177

Indeed, those who exchange belief for disbelief will never harm Allāh in the least, and they will suffer a painful torment.

3:178

And let the disbelievers not assume that Our respite to them is good for their souls. We only respite them so they may increase in sin, and they will suffer a humiliating punishment.

3:179

Allāh would not leave the believers in the state you are in until He separates the wicked from the good. Nor would Allāh disclose the unseen to you, but Allāh chooses whoever He wills from His Messengers ˹for that privilege˺. So believe in Allāh and His Messengers. And if you believe and are mindful ˹of Allāh˺, then there will be a magnificent reward for you.

3:180

And let not those who withhold what Allāh has granted them of His grace think that it is good for them. Rather, it is evil for them. They will have what they withheld encircled around their necks on the Day of Judgment. And to Allāh belongs the inheritance of the heavens and the earth. And Allāh is All-Aware of what you do.

3:181

Allāh has certainly heard the words of those who said, “Allāh is poor, and we are rich.” We will record what they said and their unjustified killing of the prophets, and We will say, “Taste the torment of the burning Fire!”

3:182

This is for what your hands have sent forth, and because Allāh is never unjust to ˹His˺ servants.

3:183

˹They are˺ those who claimed, “Allāh has commanded us not to believe in any messenger unless he brings us an offering consumed by fire.” Say, “Messengers came to you before me with clear proofs and with what you requested. Why, then, did you kill them, if you are truthful?”

3:184

So if they reject you ˹O Prophet˺, Messengers before you were also rejected, though they came with clear proofs, scriptures, and the enlightening Book.

3:185

Every soul will taste death. And you will only receive your full rewards on the Day of Judgment. So whoever is kept away from the Fire and admitted into Paradise is truly successful. And the life of this world is nothing but an enjoyment of delusion.

3:186

You will surely be tested in your wealth and in yourselves, and you will certainly hear many hurtful things from those who were given the Scripture before you and from the polytheists. But if you are patient and mindful ˹of Allāh˺—that is a matter of resolve.

3:187

And ˹remember, O People of the Scripture,˺ when Allāh took a covenant from those who were given the Scripture: “You must make it clear to people and never hide it.” But they cast it behind their backs and exchanged it for a small price. What a miserable exchange!

3:188

Do not assume that those who rejoice in what they have done and love to be praised for what they have not done—do not assume they will escape the punishment. For them, there will be a painful torment.

3:189

To Allāh belongs the sovereignty of the heavens and the earth. And Allāh is All-Powerful over everything.

3:190

Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day, there are signs for people of reason.

3:191

˹They are˺ those who remember Allāh while standing, sitting, and lying on their sides, and reflect on the creation of the heavens and the earth, ˹and pray,˺ “Our Lord! You have not created ˹all of˺ this pointlessly. Glory be to You! So save us from the torment of the Fire.

3:192

Our Lord! Indeed, whoever You admit into the Fire, You have disgraced them. And the wrongdoers will have no helpers.

3:193

Our Lord! We have heard a caller inviting ˹us˺ to faith, ˹saying,˺ ‘Believe in your Lord,’ and we have believed. Our Lord! Forgive us our sins, absolve us of our misdeeds, and grant us death in the company of the virtuous.

3:194

Our Lord! Grant us what You promised us through Your Messengers, and do not disgrace us on the Day of Judgment. Surely You never break Your promise.”

3:195

So their Lord responded to them: “I will never allow the deed of any worker among you to be lost, whether male or female; you are members of one another. So those who emigrated or were driven from their homes, and suffered harm in My cause, and fought and were killed—I will certainly absolve them of their misdeeds, and admit them into Gardens under which rivers flow, as a reward from Allāh. And Allāh has the best reward.”

3:196

Do not be deceived by the disbelievers’ movement throughout the land ˹for trade˺.

3:197

It is a brief enjoyment, then their final home will be Hell. What a terrible resting-place!

3:198

But those who are mindful of their Lord will have Gardens under which rivers flow, abiding therein forever, as an accommodation from Allāh. And what Allāh has is far better for the virtuous.

3:199

And indeed, there are some among the People of the Scripture who truly believe in Allāh and what has been revealed to you, and what has been revealed to them, humbling themselves before Allāh. They do not sell Allāh’s revelations for a small price. It is they who will have their reward with their Lord. Surely Allāh is swift in reckoning.

3:200

O believers! Be patient, persevere, be ready ˹to fight˺, and be mindful of Allāh, so that you may be successful.

4:1

O humanity! Be mindful of your Lord, Who created you from a single soul, and from it created its mate, and through both of them spread countless men and women. And be mindful of Allāh—in Whose Name you appeal to one another—and ˹honour˺ family ties. Surely Allāh is ever Watchful over you.

4:2

Give orphans their wealth ˹when they reach maturity˺, and do not exchange your worthless possessions for their valuables, nor cheat them by mixing their wealth with your own. For this would indeed be a great sin.

4:3

If you fear you might fail to give orphan women their ˹due˺ rights ˹if you were to marry them˺, then marry other women of your choice—two, three, or four. But if you are afraid you will fail to maintain justice, then ˹content yourselves with˺ one or those ˹bondwomen˺ in your possession. This way it is less likely that you will do injustice.

4:4

Give women ˹you wed˺ their due dowries graciously. But if they waive some of it willingly, then you may enjoy it freely with a clear conscience.

4:5

Do not entrust the incapable ˹among your dependants˺ with your wealth which Allāh has made a means of support for you—but feed and clothe them from it, and speak to them kindly.

4:6

Test ˹the competence of˺ the orphans until they reach a marriageable age. Then if you feel they are capable of sound judgment, return their wealth to them. And do not consume it wastefully and hastily before they grow up ˹to demand it˺. If the guardian is rich, let him claim no remuneration; but if he is poor, let him take from it what is reasonable. When you release their property to them, take witnesses in their presence. And sufficient is Allāh as a Reckoner.

4:7

Men shall have a share in what the parents and ˹close˺ relatives leave, and women shall have a share in what the parents and ˹close˺ relatives leave, whether the inheritance is small or large—a mandatory share.

4:8

And when ˹other˺ relatives, orphans, and the needy are present at the time of distribution ˹of the inheritance˺, give them a share of it, and speak to them kindly.

4:9

Let those ˹guardians˺ fear ˹Allāh˺, as they would if they were to leave behind weak offspring and were concerned for them. So let them be mindful of Allāh and speak justly.

4:10

Indeed, those who unjustly consume the property of orphans only consume fire into their bellies and will enter a blazing Hell.

4:11

Allāh commands you regarding your children: The male receives the equivalent of the share of two females. If there are only daughters, two or more, they receive two-thirds of the inheritance. If there is only one daughter, she receives one-half. Each of the parents receives one-sixth of the estate if the deceased has children. If the deceased has no children and the parents are the ˹only˺ heirs, the mother receives one-third. If the deceased has siblings, the mother receives one-sixth. ˹All payments are to be made˺ after ˹settling˺ bequests and debts. You do not know which of them—your parents or your children—is more beneficial to you. This is a commandment from Allāh. Surely Allāh is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

4:12

For you ˹men˺ is half of what your wives leave if they have no children. But if they have children, you get one-fourth of what they leave, after ˹settling˺ bequests and debts. For them ˹wives˺ is one-fourth of what you leave if you have no children. But if you have children, they get one-eighth of what you leave, after ˹settling˺ bequests and debts. And if a man or a woman leaves neither parents nor children, but has a brother or a sister, then each of them receives one-sixth. But if they are more than two, they share one-third ˹of the estate˺, after ˹settling˺ bequests and debts, provided no one is prejudiced. This is a commandment from Allāh. And Allāh is All-Knowing, Most Forbearing.

4:13

These are the limits set by Allāh. Whoever obeys Allāh and His Messenger will be admitted into Gardens under which rivers flow, to stay there forever. That is the ultimate triumph.

4:14

But whoever disobeys Allāh and His Messenger and transgresses His limits will be admitted into a Fire, to stay there forever, and will suffer a humiliating punishment.

4:15

As for those of your women who commit indecency, call four reliable witnesses from among you against them. If they testify ˹to the truth of the accusation˺, confine the women to their homes until death releases them or Allāh ordains for them a ˹different˺ way.

4:16

If two men among you commit it, punish them. But if they repent and mend their ways, then leave them alone. Surely Allāh is Ever-Accepting of repentance, Most Merciful.

4:17

Allāh’s acceptance of repentance is only for those who commit a sin in ignorance then repent soon after. It is they to whom Allāh will turn in forgiveness. And Allāh is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

4:18

But repentance is not ˹accepted˺ from those who persist in sin until death approaches one of them, and they say, “Now I repent,” nor from those who die while disbelieving. For them, We have prepared a painful torment.

4:19

O believers! It is not lawful for you to inherit women against their will. Nor should you treat them harshly in order to take away some of what you have given them, unless they commit a clear indecency. Live with them in kindness. If you dislike them, it may be that you dislike something in which Allāh has placed much good.

4:20

If you wish to replace one wife with another and have given the first one a great amount of dowry, do not take anything back from it. Would you take it back through slander and blatant sin?

4:21

And how can you take it back when you have already enjoyed intimacy with each other, and they have taken from you a solemn pledge?

4:22

Do not marry women whom your fathers had married—except what has already passed. It is indeed a shameful deed, a detestable practice, and an evil way.

4:23

Forbidden to you ˹for marriage˺ are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your paternal aunts, your maternal aunts, your brother’s daughters, your sister’s daughters, your foster-mothers who breastfed you, your foster-sisters, your wives’ mothers, your step-daughters under your guardianship ˹born˺ of your wives with whom you have been intimate—but if you have not been intimate with them, then there is no blame upon you—and the wives of your own sons, and that you take two sisters as wives simultaneously—except what has already passed. Indeed, Allāh is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
